Tell us a little about you!
I grew up in several places, from Utica, NE, to Ogallala, NE, to Mitchell, SD. I ended up graduating from Norfolk High School. I graduated from UNL with a degree in accounting. While in college I served in the Nebraska Army National Guard for 10 years. After passing the CPA Exam I moved to Columbus 38 years ago to work for a CPA firm. I quickly discovered the long hours weren’t for me, so I ended up at Nebraska Public Power for 20 years. I have been at First Nebraska Bank for the last 15 years.
On the personal side, I’m married and have two sons—both accountants in Omaha. Our eldest is married and has given us the joy of twin grandchildren.
My wife and I are deeply committed to our community and believe in giving back to the place that has supported us so much. Currently, we’re involved in organizing Taste of Columbus, which raises funds for the Columbus Chamber and a local non-profit that will be doing work to revitalize our downtown area.
What is your current role at First Nebraska Bank?
I’m the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for overseeing the bank's and holding company’s financial operations. This includes everything from budgeting and financial reporting to payroll and cash management. I also manage the Human Resources department.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I really enjoy working with a variety of people. I love solving challenges and finding ways to improve our processes.
What do you think sets First Nebraska Bank apart from other financial institutions?
We are proactive in deployment of technology. We are fortunate to have visionary leaders and supportive ownership that have allowed us to be ahead of the curve with the evolving financial services industry.
If you weren’t in this career, what could you see yourself doing?
Retired.
What song are you most likely jamming out to on a Friday afternoon?
It depends on my mood! I might go for easy listening or acoustic guitar, but other times I’ll throw on some classic rock or country classics. Occasionally, you might even catch me enjoying a little Polka music.
